The Winter Solstice is when the Sun light begins a new solar cycle. It marks the first day of Winter.
It is the shortest day and the longest night of the year.
In the Northern Hemisphere it is a time of darkness and sleep.
In the Southern Hemisphere – the sun is coming through.
It is the light and dark shifting.
It signifies literally a turning point.
Solstice actually means – Sun and still (or stop).
The Sun actually slows down and stops, then spins in the other direction.
Going from Southwards to Northwards.
In Winter everything lies dormant – just like in nature, plants do not bloom, and some animals even hibernate.
The winter’s energy is a time for inner reflection and to look within to see what needs to be healed and let go of.
In this time of “darkness’, our deepest emotions and feelings can surface for healing.
To figure out what to no longer serves you before the awakening of the spring (the new).
This is why we honor darkness just as much as light.
The power of the sun coming to a standstill and changing direction is an indication of our own personal lives.
